Refrigeration Fundamentals

1 week evening classes and full Saturday   (4 nights/1 day - 20 hours)

Program Prerequistities: ACHP 105 or 1 year field experience. Student should be familiar with the AC cycle, basic electricity, AC and HP electrical wiring diagrams, refrigerant handling including recovery, pressure testing, leak detection, evacuation and proper charging by super heat and subcooling.

Program Objective: This program is designed to supplement a student’s current knowledge of Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps so that (s)he has a through understanding of commercial refrigeration systems, components and operations.

Program Outline – Major Topics
Compressors –commonly used semi-hermetic compressors - causes of compressor failures
Refrigeration accessories including
accumulators
receivers
crankcase pressure regulating valves
discharge by-pass valves
headmasters
lube oil protection switches
oil separators
evaporator regulating valves
pressure relief valves
three way valves

Defrost Methods / Controls/ Wiring Diagrams/ Sequence of operation
air defrost / manual / DP/ pump down
hot gas defrost
electrical defrost

Major Lab Activities: HANDS-ON TRAINING

Tear down of common commercial refrigeration compressors, failure analysis
tear down of refrigeration accessories as listed above.

Hands-On Training: The student learns proper function, troubleshooting and repairs in our lab by working on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Some of the equipment that the student will use:

Classes: Limited to 24 students with excellent instructor/student interaction.
